Four homers and Herron too much for Drillers

Springfield Cardinals (AA):

The Double-A Cards finished a five-game series in Tulsa last night against the Colorado Rockies' affiiliate Tulsa Drillers, finishing strong with a 7-2 win.

Tyler Herron pitched his way to his fifth win, now 5-4 with a 4.73 ERA. Herron allowed five hits in six full innings. Only one of the two runs he gave up were earned. He walked three and struck out three.

Like the parent Cardinals team last night, the Double-A affiliate accumulated four home runs. Drillers Stadium could not hold four different Cardinals. Going long were Allen Craig (17), Tyler Greene (14), Andrew Brown (7), Jose Martinez (6). The homers accounted for six of the Cards' seven runs.

Jon Jay went 2-for-3, and Mark Shorey went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Cardinals start a seven-game homestand at Hammons Field tonight with Dan Cortes (4-3) expected to start against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

Also big in Double-A Springfield news is the upcoming Sunday home game, also against the Naturals, which is reported to be a scheduled rehab assignment for parent-Cardinals' former ace, Chris Carpenter.
