NoteCARDS v Phillies ... after 3

The Cards squandered a first inning chance at Phillies' starter Jamie Moyer, leaving Ryan Ludwick (BB) and Albert Pujols (single) on base.

Ryan Howard belted a line drive home run to left field with Chase Utley aboard to put the Phils up 2-0 in the first inning.

Chris Duncan singled in the second, but was doubled off of first base when Braden Looper hit a line drive right at Phils' first baseman Howard. Duncan's start raised some eyebrows, Tony La Russa selecting the lefty swinger when he had call-up Joe Mather (righty swinger) at his disposal, the somewhat surprising move considering Jamie Moyer is a lefthanded pitcher.

Cards' starter Looper breezed through the Phillies half of the second.

Brendan Ryan got a leadoff single in the third, but Adam Kennedy grounded into a double play. Ludwick flew out to end the inning.

The Phils touched up Looper for an add-on run in the bottom of the third inning. Jimmy Rollins hit a one-out double to center, was then moved over to third base by Shane Victorino on a ground ball to the right side. Chase Utley provided the punch, doubling Rollins home to put the Phils up 3-0 after three inning.
