NoteCARDS v Pirates ... after 7 innings

Top of 7th: The Pirates brought in reliever Denny Bautista, who promptly walked Albert Pujols. Troy Glaus singled, putting Cards base runners on first and second with no outs and a chance to tack on runs to their 5-run lead. Molina grounded into a double play, but Pujols got to third base. Ankiel then came through with a basehit to center, bringing home Pujols to make it 6-0. Baustista continued to struggle on the mound, walking Cesar Izturis, pushing Ankiel to second base. Both base runners were left on base, however, when Lohse grounded out.

Bottom of 7th: Cardinals' pitching coach Dave Duncan would be eyeballing Lohse now, as the game headed into its final third. The Pirates went down one-two-three, a fly out, pop out, and a ground out.

At the end of seven complete innings, the Cardinals continued to hold a 6-0 lead.
