Redbird Randoms 7/10/08

Next game: Today, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, 12:05 p.m. CDT.

Probables: STL-Braden Looper RHP (9-6, 4.15) vs. PHL-Jamie Moyer LHP (7-6, 4.12).

Bird Perch: A combination of the Cardinals losing last night and the first place Cubs beating the Reds 5-1 has caused the Cards to slip further behind in the NLC, 4.5 games. The Brewers also lost last night, to the Rockies, 8-3, putting them a half-game behind the Cards and five full games out of first place.

Mark Mulder: Except for the statement by Mulder that he was injured in last night's game, a more involved medical evaluation has yet to reveal the extent of the injury. An official press release is expected today.

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Pitcher Clayton Mortensen, according to a Special to The Commercial Appeal (Memphis) regarding last night's loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs, gave up two home runs to Raul Casanova, a two-run shot and a grand slam. The Redbirds lost 10-6. (see new MiLB posts her on 4thebirds.

Adding insult (not intentionally) to injury, Casanova hit Mortensen in the arm with a line drive, causing his departure from the game.

In the losing cause, Rico Washington and Nick Stavinoha homered.
Tonight's pitcher will be Mike Parisi (6-1, 3.38).

Rumor: Jaime Garcia may get the call up from Triple-A Memphis if and when Mark Mulder goes on the DL.
