Redbird Randoms ... Carpenter, Wainwright, Lohse, Glaus

On deck: The Cards play host to the Padres again tonight at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The game is the second in a four-game series that runs through Monday night, with the first pitch set for 7:15 p.m. CDT.

Probables: SDO- Greg Maddux RHP (3-8, 3.90) vs. STL-Braden Looper RHP (9-7, 4.25)

Chris Carpenter: The former Cards' ace is set to begin a 30-day rehab assignment this Sunday. He is slated for a start with the Double-A affiliate Springfield Cardinals in a night game at Hammons Field. Carpenter is trying to make a comeback after Tommy John surgery last year on his right elbow.

There is the possibility of Carpenter returning to the parent club before the 30 days are up, but the Cardinals have made it very clear that there is no rush, citing player health issues as the foremost concern.

Adam Wainwright continues the rehab of his injured finger and is expected to make a return to the active roster in early August.

Kyle Lohse has won nine straight, his record now 12-2. Not bad for a non-All Star.

Whatcha done for me lately? The top Cards in the last four (not counting All-Star stats) games in:
