Cards cutting it close with E#

Even under the worst scenario today -- a Cardinals loss and an NL Wild Card leading New York Mets win -- the St. Louis squad would not be out of the running for the WC.

Currently, the Cards' E# is three. They are at the bottom of the handful of NL teams remaining with a shot at the WC. The Mets and Phillies continue to trade places at the top, and very well may both end up in the playoffs if none of the chasing NL Central teams put up a better fight.

Left over from the NL Central are the Milwaukee Brewers, Florida Marlins, Houston Astros, and St. Louis Cardinals.

The Cardinals take on the Cubs in the rubber match of the three-game series at Wrigley Field today at 1:20 p.m. CT.
