Modern Woodmen Park playing surface to get makeover / "Harvesting the small patch of corn that sits behind the Quad-Cities River Bandits bullpen won’t be the only field work taking place at Modern Woodmen Park this fall.

The playing field at Davenport’s Midwest League stadium will be getting an offseason makeover as well, addressing concerns of the River Bandits’ parent club, the St. Louis Cardinals."

... Ben Kratz, the groundskeeper at Modern Woodmen Park, is on deck for the River Bandits this Autumn. His task. Fix the field.

Kratz is a full-time groundskeeper for the facility that hosts the St. Louis Cardinals' Class A Quad-Cities River Bandits. The Cardinals have concerns, as do visiting ball clubs, that a player could get hurt do to the poor condition of the playing surface.

Not Kratz's fault. The Mississippi had a lot to do with the deterioration of the field throughout the course of this season.
