Former St. Louis Cardinal Moyer in World Series

... Once upon a time, Phillies' pitcher Jamie Moyer was a Redbird. That's right, two birds on a bat. Way back when, like a lot of young pitchers, Moyer wasn't all that good, just learning his way. The Cardinals' minor league system was a part of that process.

Other than Albert Pujols and his current parade of awards, and with the actual Cardinals long gone from the 2008 season, there's not much else to talk about regarding anything remotely close to St. Louis baseball right now.

Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch brings us an interesting feature on Moyer.

STLtoday - Former St. Louis Cardinal Moyer in World Series: "'Getting sent back to the minor leagues and being traded ... I think those are character builders,' Moyer said. 'You know what? I've always had something to offer to this game.

'I'm not the No. 1 starter. I'm not the guy that's going to carry the staff for four months out of the season. But I can contribute in a lot of ways and I'm very proud of that.'"
