Too Manny Cards?

Manny Ramirez, according to an Associated Press article, has the St. Louis Cardinals' Albert Pujols puzzled.

Pujols, who speaks with Ramirez a couple times a week by telephone, is wondering why no major league team has signed Ramirez.

The Cards' All-Star first baseman wouldn't mind seeing Ramirez in St. Louis next season. Reportedly, Pujols passed along Ramirez' number to Cardinals' manager Tony La Russa.

Most baseball fans realize, however, that St. Louis is not a big market team when it comes to a never-ending supply of cash for big payrolls--the kind Ramirez requires.

It would also require a lot of reasonable thinking on the part of St. Louis ownership, Ramirez' agent, and Ramirez himself. All would have to understand that even if Ramirez is worth a certain amount of contract money, St. Louis simply is in no position to pony up.
