Ryan Ludwick signed a one-year contract worth $3.7 million Monday. Ludwick avoided arbitration within 24 hours of its scheduled start. Last week, Rick Ankiel also avoided arbitration and signed a contract.

According to Cards' GM John Mozeliak, there hasn't been a Cardinals' arbitration case since 1999.
