Cards continue March through Spring

The Cards work out against the Nats today from Viera, Florida, just a couple weeks away from Opening Day at Busch Stadium.

Kyle Lohse starts today at Space Coast Stadium, the Spring Training home for the Nats.

Also tentatively slated, if that makes sense, to pitch for the Cards are Kyle McClellan, Jason Motte, and Royce Ring.

Adam Wainwright hurled yesterday, with the work being that he still has some tweaking to do in order to get on track for the upcoming regular season.

The Cards tied the Phils, 2-2. Rick Ankiel went deep for the second time in a s many games. Before yesterday's two-run shot, Ankiel hit a solo home run.

Ryan Ludwick had hit a three-run homer in that previous game, and continues his attmept to put his swing in order for the upcoming season. It seems likely he will do so with just over two weeks remaining. Ludwick may be putting too much pressure on himself to perform at last season's level, or better.

Chris Perez was permitted to throw, but only briefly, and from a 90-foot maximum.

Motte continues to be the front runner for closer in the eyes of most of Cardinal Nation. Ryan Franklin and Josh Kinney keep coming up in the conversation, however.

Tomorrow, Todd Wellemeyer is scheduled to pitch versus the Orioles with Brad Thompson, Blake Hawksworth, and Ryan Franklin available for work out of the bullpen.

There are 16 days remaining until Opening Day.
