Pineiro now 4-0 as Cards edge Braves

Joel Pineiro may have been the Cardinals fifth starter in the rotation as the season began, but he now holds the best pitching record to date, 4-0, due to a win over the Atlanta Braves Monday night.

A 3-2 victory saw the Cards starting off a seven-game road trip on the right foot.

Rick Ankiel led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a couple RBIs. Chris Duncan added an RBI.

Noteworthy defense came into play, courtesy of shortstop Brendan Ryan.

Manager Tony La Russa went with three relievers after Pineiro gave the team 6 2/3 innings. Pineiro's pitching to contact has served him and the squad well.

Chris Perez came on to throw one out's worth and finish the seventh. Kyle McClellan threw the eighth; Ryan Franklin closed.

Both Perez and McClellan earned holds while Franklin earned his sixth save.

Jurrjens (2-2) took the loss for Atlanta.
