Preview -- Bucs v Cards 4-7-09

ST LOUIS--The Cards want nothing more than to take the field at Busch Stadium. That way, yesterday's Opening Day to Forget will fade.

Great thing about baseball: there always tomorrow.

And right now, tomorrow means tonight, when manager Tony La Russa will offer --but of course -- a different lineup.

St. Louis Cardinals

  1. Skip Schumaker 2B

  2. Colby Rasmus RF

  3. Albert Pujols 1B

  4. Chris Duncan LF

  5. Khalil Greene SS

  6. Rick Ankiel CF

  7. Yadier Molina C

  8. Joe Thurston 3B

  9. Kyle Lohse P

Notable:

  • Schumaker gets his first MLB game at second base, and he will lead off versus the righthanded Ian Snell.

  • Colby Rasmus gets a start in right field; Ludwick sitting.

  • C-Dunc goes cleanup against the RHP.

  • Thurston gets his shot to show his stuff at 3B. (Freese is supposed to start 3B tomorrow.)

TLR loading up LH batters vs. Snell.

The extended Spring Training tryouts is unusual, but unavoidable, and should prove interesting, as long as the Cards simultaneously prosper.

Pittsburgh Pirates

  1. N. Morgan LF

  2. F. Sanchez 2B

  3. N. McLouth CF

  4. R. Doumit C

  5. Adam. LaRoche 1B

  6. E. Hinske RF

  7. Andy LaRoche 3B
    J. Wilson SS

  8. I. Snell P

Game time: 7:15 p.m. CT
