Cards work back into first place tie

Chris Carpenter pitched the Cardinals back into a first place tie with the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday night as the Cards won 4-1 over the aforementioned team. Both teams now sport a 31-23 record.

Carpenter improves his record to 7-1. Kyle McClellan earned his first save of the season.

Matt Holliday hit a home run.

The Cards have Thursday off before beginning a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners Friday night at Busch Stadium.
