Reds hopes of sweep Leake away

Despite a trade that put Jimmy Edmonds in a Reds uniform to join another former Cardinals player--Scott Rolen--the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati remained quiet for most of the night during a Redbirds 7-3 victory.

The Cardinals got to Reds' starter Mike Leake early, becoming so disoriented he started for the dugout with only two outs. When he returned to the mound, Felipe Lopez singled, eventually advancing to third base on a wild pitch, then scoring on another Cards' hit.

The Redbirds pulled with a game of the NL Central leading Reds behind yet another deep-inning outing by Chris Carpenter. The Cards gathered enough runs on Schumaker's grand slam alone to beat the front runners.

Adam Wainwright will attempt to continue the solid pitching so far in the series in the second game. If the Cardinals win they will move into a tie for first place.
