Carpenter's career likely over

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that Chris Carpenter has preseason injuries to his throwing shoulder that will shut him down for the 2013 season and likely end his career.

General manager, John Mozeliak, said there is a slight chance of a return, but the forecast for a potential comeback is gloomy enough so that the Cards are already planning on moving forward without their ace.

Carpenter did not attend a press conference for the announcement. Mozeliak cited his absence was due to Carpenter's probable high state of emotions at this time.
