Rzepczynski agrees to $1.1 million

"Zep" didn't have quite the year out of the pen in 2012 as he did the season before, but there's no reason he won't do better this coming season.

At least, that's what he and the Cards are thinking, pretty much.

Former Lugnut leftie, Marc Rzepczynski
Marc Rzepczynski and the St. Louis Cardinals reportedly agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million contract with incentives for $25,000 and $50,000 for appearing in 70 and 75 games, respectively.

Nothing wrong with the 27 year old Rzepczynski, except having a season that doesn't quite measure up to the season prior and having that lesser season be the last of a contract, well, that always makes agreements and the possibility or arbitration something to which both sides want to weight everything out.

Being a lefty reliever didn't hurt Rzepczynski's cause in negotiations. Those southpaws are always a desirable commodity in the eyes of ownership. The manager's seem to like have one or two of those guys in the pen as well.
