OF Rowan Wick, P Rob Kaminsky earn Cardinals minor league honors for June

ST. LOUIS, Mo., July 2, 2014 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced their Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for June by honoring outfielder Rowan Wick at State College (short‐season A) and left‐handed starting pitcher Rob Kaminsky at Peoria (A) for their accomplishments on the field.

Wick, 21, began his 2014 season on June 13, at State College where he promptly went 3‐for‐4 with two home runs and 5 RBI, scoring three times at Williamsport. That game was his first of two three‐hit games (also 6/17 vs. Batavia) during the month, and part of his 13 of 17 games in which he collected a hit, including seven multi‐hit games. Wick batted .407 during June and blasted 10 home runs, with 21 RBI, a .536 on‐base pct. and 1.019 slugging pct. Despite the season not beginning until mid‐June, the 10 home runs and 21 RBI led all Cardinals minor leaguers for the month, and his 10 homers equaled the State College team record for home runs in a season. He ranked T2nd among all minor league players in homers, while pacing short‐season clubs in RBI and ranking 2nd with his .407 average. Wick made all his outfield appearances in rightfield (15 games). He is a 9th round (300 overall) selection by the Cardinals in 2012 out of British Columbia, Canada, in his third season with St. Louis.

Kaminsky, 19, started five games spanning 30.1 innings for Peoria during June. He went 4‐0 with a 0.89 ERA as he struck out 28 batters to just three walks for a 0.69 WHIP and held batters to a .165 average. He had two shutout starts in the month, 6.0 innings vs. Clinton and 7.0 scoreless frames to end the month, June 30 vs. Quad Cities. Kaminsky allowed single earned runs in his three additional starts: two runs (one earned) over 6.2 innings vs. Kane County, 5.0 innings at Quad Cities (1 run) and 5.2 innings vs. Cedar Rapids (1 run). The lefty was the Cardinals 1st round selection (28th overall) in last year’s June draft out of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
