Cards clipped by Reds again, plateless in series

ST. LOUIS--The St. Louis Cardinals have been involved in several one-run games thus far in their current (and longest) home stand versus the Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves, and now, the Cincinnati Reds, losing Wednesday, 1-0 to the Reds.

John Lackey (9-6) suffered the loss for the Cards while Anthony DeSclafani (6-7) notched the win for the Reds. Aroldis Chapman claimed save number 21.

Like the first game against the Reds, the game-winning hit was a home run. On Tuesday, it was a three-run shot off the bat of Joey Votto. In Wednesday's shutout, Jay Bruce did the Cards in with a solo blast.

Like their opponents during this home stand, the Cards have not generated much run production, while their pitching staff has done all a team could want on the mound. Of concern is that St. Louis has not crossed the plate once versus the Reds.

The Cards try to avoid a series sweep today at Busch Stadium, hoping to get on track prior to the arrival of the Colorado Rockies for a four-game series starting Friday.
