Garcia near distance win gives Cards win over Marlins

ST. LOUIS--Jaime Garcia nearly went the distance for the St. Louis Cardinals Friday in a 3-1 win over the Miami Marlins at Busch Stadium.

Eight-and-a-third innings work for Garcia, giving up one unearned run in the ninth, required only the services of one bullpen hurler. Trevor Rosenthal came on to clean up the last couple of outs, picking up his 36th save of the season.

Matt Carpenter clouted his 18th home run of the year, a solo shot.

The Cardinals continue their three-game series with the Marlins today at Busch Stadium.
