Giants shut out Cards, series tied

ST. LOUIS--A 2-0 blanking of the St. Louis Cardinals by World Series defender San Francisco Giants ties their recent three-game series at one-each. The rubber match plays Wednesday at Busch Stadium.

Lance Lynn (9-8) provided decent pitching, allowing only two runs (both earned) through nearly seven innings of pitching.

Giants' starter, Ryan Vogelsong (9-8), however, was shutout tough.

Both teams used five pitchers in the Tuesday night grudge match.

With the Pittsburgh Pirates' 9-8 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Pirates pull within five games of the first place Cardinals in the N.L. Central Division. The Chicago Cubs, hot of late, are now within eight games of first place.
