Molina cleans up on clean up

ST. LOUIS--Yadier Molina made the most of Matheny's moving him into the clean-up spot for the rubber match versus the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants Wednesday, blasting a solo homer in the eighth inning to give the St. Louis Cardinals a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish.

Molina would lead the Cards' offensive attack, going three-for-four on the night.

Stephen Piscotty also homered, a one-run shot in the third inning.

It wasn't until the seventh, however, that the Cards would tie the game up at three-apiece, Tommy Pham beating a possible force play at the plate.

Cards' starter Jaime Garcia put forth six and a third innings but got no decision.

Reliever Kevin Siegrist notched a win due to the Molina heroics in the eighth.

The Cards take their N.L. Central first place standing with them on the road west, Thursday the travel day, and then to begin a three-game series in San Diego with the Padres.
