Tomlinson walk-off sinks Cards by the Bay

SAN FRANCISCO--The San Francisco Giants' rookie Kelby Tomlinson drove home the game-winning run in walk-off fashion with a bases-loaded single at AT&T Park, giving the Giants a 5-4 win.

This was the Giant's fifth walk-off win of the season.

A heartbreaking loss for the St. Louis Cardinals, to be sure, after fighting back from a 4-0 deficit due to a grand slam by the Giants' Marlon Byrd in the third.

Card's starter, Micheal Wacha, got a no decision because of the comeback, but lost a chance to earn his 16th win.

Kevin Siegrist gave up the game winner.

The Cardinals were without closer, Trevor Rosenthal, who is on paternity leave for the entire three-game series with the Giants.

Probably the best way St. Louis can look at the defeat is that it took an extreme effort by San Francisco to accomplish their win. A grand slam can be difficult to overcome. Credit the Giants on getting the job done.

The Cards have a couple more games by the Bay before returning to Busch Stadium for a nine-game home stand.
